Adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD), a diagnostic challenge. Case report

Abstract

Adult Still's disease (ASD) is a rare medical condition with rare Adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD) is a rare inflammatory disease of unknown etiology, with varied clinical presentation and symptoms such as fever, evanescent salmon rash, odynophagia, lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly, leukocytosis (neutrophilia), hyperferritinemia associated with the absence of antibodies. We present the case of a female patient who presented typical and atypical symptoms. Initial laboratory studies reported increased acute phase reactants, considering infectious, neoplastic and autoimmune processes as differential diagnosis. Multidisciplinary pharmacological treatment was indicated with satisfactory discharge results after 25 days of hospitalization, with institutional limitations for obtaining laboratories, concluding that Still's disease remains a diagnostic challenge for the physician since we do not have a specific diagnostic test and Yamaguchi' criteria can be a guide for its early diagnosis.
