Three decades of the Magazine “Reumatología al Día.” Official dissemination organ of the Ecuadorian Society of Rheumatology

Abstract

The journal Reumatología al Día was established in 1994 as the official publication of the Sociedad Ecuatoriana de Reumatología (SER) during the presidency of Dr. Luis Zurita Gavilanes. Its goal was to share experiences and treatments related to rheumatic diseases. Initially planned as an annual publication for healthcare professionals, the journal faced interruptions due to limited resources, a small number of rheumatologists in Ecuador, and changes in leadership, resulting in only 15 volumes being published out of the 24 projected between 1994 and 2018.

Since 2019, editor Dr. Sara Vargas López spearheaded a systematic process to revitalize the journal, encouraging new rheumatologists and forming research groups to ensure a steady flow of scientific contributions. She worked with the technical team to upload the journal to SER's website and successfully achieved its indexing in 2023 on the Latindex platform by meeting rigorous requirements, such as publishing three issues annually. This achievement earned her the “Eugenio Espejo” award from SER in 2024.

The journal, a collective effort of rheumatologists and other professionals, represents a significant contribution to national and international medicine. It is envisioned as a key platform for future generations, promoting research and innovation in Ecuadorian rheumatology.
