Abstract
Objectives: To determine the manometric esophageal findings of patients with Systemic Sclerosis (SSc).
Materials and Methods: A descriptive a nd cross-sectional study was conducted on patients diagnosed with SSc who were treated at the Rheumatology Service of the Hermanos Ameijeiras Hospital, between January 2020 and December 2021.
Results: Of the 86 patients, the mean age was 49.5 ± 15.3 years, 94.3% female. 90.7% had esophageal motility disorders (EMD), mainly major disorders (58.1%) and short esophageal sphincter (62.8%). The presence of symptoms (regurgitation, heartburn, and dysphagia) was related to manometric parameters. Also, disease duration (10.1 ± 9.1 vs. 5.9 ± 5.9 years [p:0,027]), Raynaud's phenomenon (93.9% vs. 25.0% [p:0,002]) and diffuse SSc (96.2% vs. 82.4% [p:0,039]) were significantly higher in patients with EMD.
Conclusion: Patients with diffuse SSc, Raynaud's phenomenon, presence of symptoms and longer duration of the disease were associated with EMD.
